Thanks for you comment.
The answer to your question is found in Public Law 107-306, entitled
"Establishing the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks
Upon the United States," which was adopted on Nov. 27, 2002. Here is
the relevant language from that law:
"SEC. 608. COMPENSATION AND TRAVEL EXPENSES.
(a) Compensation.--Each member of the Commission may be compensated
at not to exceed the daily equivalent of the annual rate of basic pay in
effect for a position at level IV of the Executive Schedule under
section 5315 of title 5, United States Code, for each day during which
that member is engaged in the actual performance of the duties of the
Commission.
(b) Travel Expenses.--While away from their homes or regular places
of business in the performance of services for the Commission, members
of the Commission shall be allowed travel expenses, including per diem
in lieu of subsistence, in the same manner as persons employed
intermittently in the Government service are allowed expenses under
section 5703(b) of title 5, United States Code."
There is no distinction made between the Chair and Vice-Chair and
other members of the Commission.
"[T]he annual rate of basic pay in effect for a position at level IV
of the Executive Schedule," which determines that compensation of 9/11
Commission members, is $136,900.
Here is a link to the law itself:
Findlaw.com: Terrorism (Scroll to section 608, about 7/8 down the page)
http://news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/terrorism/pl107-306.html
And here is a link to the executive pay schedule that is referenced in the law:
Office of Personnel Management: Salary Table 2004-EX
http://www.opm.gov/oca/04tables/html/ex.asp
Reduced to a daily rate, the Chair and Vice-Chair are, under the
controlling statute, authorized to be paid $375 per day, plus
expenses, "for each day during which that member is engaged in the
actual performance of the duties of the Commission."
Search Strategy:
I conducted several Google searches to zero in on the information you
are seeking. The one that led to the answer most directly was:
"9/11 commission" compensated
://www.google.com/search?q=%229/11+commission%22++compensated&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&start=30&sa=N
Once I found the controlling statute, I used its language to find the
Office of Personnel Management's applicable executive pay scale.
Finally, I conducted several searches to try to determine whether
Messrs. Kean or Hamilton are paid some lesser amount and found no
indication that they are.
Based on your comment, I am confident that this is the information you
are seeking. If anything is unclear, please ask for clarification
before rating this answer.
