Something called "Search Everything" has made itself my homepage.

How can I get rid of it?

Have tried setting blank as homepage. Have tried downloading a couple
of things recommended by respondents, but when I click to download,
the unwanted search page appears, concealing the process. When I go to
programs to see if anything was downloaded, I find nothing new.

Downloaded Ad-ware 6.0. It quarantined and then deleted 10 files.
Downloaded Uninstall.exe. and ran it. It gave me a message saying my
homepage had been unblocked and could be changed to whatever I wanted.

But the problem remains.

I tried Uninstall.exe again. This time I received the following message:
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. "CS: 0242
IP:e4ad OP: ff ff ff ff ff Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application."
I clicked "Ignore," and Uninstall resumed, but only for a few
seconds, and then the "terminate" message reappeared. Clicking "Ignore"
had no effect, so after clicking it a dozen times, I clicked "Close."

I have also downloaded and run Ad-aware 6.0 and Spybot S&D 1.2.

The problem persists.

Hi Victimized,

Got yourself a nasty little bug there.

Goto:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Download the free software called hijackthis, and run it. Post the
results of your scan and I will let you know what to delete to clean
this little guy out of your system.

Take a look at that question, and go though the same procedures and
that will fix your problem.

Easier: go to http://find4u.net/help.htm and download "uninstall.exe".
It should remove all the "Search Everything" mess.

Hiya,
Had a similar problem when typing in a incorrect URL.
Search download.com for Ad-aware 6.0.
It's an anti-spyware program that removes all spyware software,
cookies and registry files. It worked really well on my computer, I
had loads of tracking cookies and spyware. It's also free for the
personal version which is always good.

Hope it works.

another excellent spyware remover is spybot's "search and destroy", a
free utility available at http://www.safer-networking.org .
