Dear kenneth9: ""We need double-digit growth in all population groups to meet the national workforce needs, but when we analyze the number, there are no major fluctuations to be found. There's no drama," says Slaughter. "With 64.189 graduates, the engineering class of 2001 is only about two percent larger than the previously year. On the minority front there is more bad news than good. The good news is that, for the third year, more African American males are earning engineering degrees. This is the only minority population, however, experiencing an increase." So according to this article: http://www.black-collegian.com/news/nodrama202.shtml, there were 64,189 total. I doubt anyone will be able to find a break down by college and state in a single list, though. Best Regards, blader-ga |

Dear Kenneth9 , Though this data is not of 2000-2001 , if the data required is for some statistical analysis then the following two sets of data might be of some indication as to the trend . FIRST SET :- FRESHMAN ENGINEERING ENROLLMENT BY GENDER(*) AND ETHNICITY: 1992-93 TO 1997-98 Change Enrollment Enrollment 1992-93 to 1992-93 1997-98 1997-98 (N) (N) (%) Total Minority Freshmen 15181 13929 -8.3 Men 10779 9926 -8.0 Women 4402 4003 -9.9 African American Freshmen 8924 7463 -17.1 Men 5999 4831 -19.5 Women 2925 2572 -12.1 Lation Freshmen 5624 5858 4.2 Men 4324 4596 6.3 Women 1300 1262 -3.0 American Indian Freshmen 633 668 5.5 Men 457 499 9.2 Women 176 169 -4.0 Total Nonminority Freshmen 77518 75043 -3.2 Men 64030 61675 -3.7 Women 13488 13368 -0.9 Total Freshmen 92699 88972 -4.1 Men 75086 71601 -4.7 Women 17613 17371 -1.4 1 Data collected by the Engineering Workforce Commission under a grant from NACME. Does not reflect engineering enrollment in Puerto Rico. * Notes.-Gender unknows have been apportioned to the male and female population in the same ratio as that of the known population Enrollment figures for 1996-97 have been restated to correct for a reporting error made by the U.C San Diego. It is collected through the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System program completers survey conducted by the NCES. The survey requests data from each higher education campus on the number of degrees and other formal awards conferred in academic, vocational and continuing professional education programs. Institutions report their data according to the Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) codes developed by the NCES. CIP codes provide a common set of categories allowing comparisons across all colleges and universities. Kenneth, Blader-ga found an excellent link but gave you the wrong number. From the article "No Drama Found In 2001 Engineering Graduation Numbers: NACME Calls For Redoubling Of Efforts" at http://www.black-collegian.com/news/nodrama202.shtml "Fewer minority engineering graduates In 2000 a record 6,710 African Americans, American Indians and Latinos received engineering bachelor's degrees, representing nearly 11 percent of the class. Last year, that number slid to 6,603, and 10.3 percent. Latinos fell from 3,213 to 3,146, and American Indians from 347 to 215. The number of African American females went from 1,113 to 1,098, while African American males rose from 2,037 to 2,084." |
