This is a follow-on to my #324858, to which Leader responded.

Leader's information was very good. At first I thought maybe the
thing to do was to get off the train at Gare du Nord and not
Austerlitz in order to stay at one of the suggested hotels. But from
what I've found in further digging into the French railway through
G***le, Austerlitz appears to be the end of the line. (If I'm wrong,
about that, please set me straight.)

So the next logical step is to ask: instead of transferring from
Austerlitz to Gare du Nord to get to the hotel, wouldn't it make more
sense to find a hotel close to Austerlitz? Is travel to the airport
really significantly better from the Gare du Nord area than from
Austerlitz?

So here's my two-part question. Please answer it if you actually know
the area and can tell me more than what you can learn through web
research alone.

- Is the vicinity of the Paris Austerlitz railway station a decent
area in which to spend the night and dine out alone? (Please see
#324858 for what that means.)

- Is there a hotel or two close to the station that you would
recommend? Please provide links. Also please say how close: can I
walk from the station easily with luggage, meaning that it's
essentially right there, or is it a cab ride, and if the latter, how
far?

Thank you,

Never mind, and thanks anyway. I did my best on my own and chose the
Libertel Austerlitz. I'll close the question now.
