As the poor chaps at Best Buy and Crutchfield arent terribly sure,
i'll ask you bright fellows and fellettes: Can these DVD players I
see in cars and SUV's these days play a DVD disc containing MP3's?
I'm sure some do and some dont, but I'd like to be able to play 4.7GB
of mp3's in my car rather than burning a few cd's. I'm not interested
in video at all, just wheather the indash DVD players can handle a
full 4.7GB DVD of MP3's. Any suggestions of particular brands or
models from Crutchfield woudl be appreciated too. Thanks.

There are very few DVD players that can play mp3s off of a DVD. I am
not sure of the reason for this. I do not think that any of the items
you might get from crutchfield would do this. As far as I can tell,
there are VERY few in-dash dvd/cd players that can handle mp3s on a
DVD-R. That, along with the incredibly dearth of name-brand DVD
players that play MP3s on a DVD+-R even for home theaters make me
believe that they do not.

I do not know anything about the company, but www.mp3playerstore.com
does sell such a unit, made by a brand unknown to me.

Good enough, thanks! I suppose i'll wait another year or so and ask
again. I'll continue to walk around with my DVD disc in my pocket
asking people to try it our for me on their systems I suppose. I do
know that I can make a successful disc if I create a menu interface
and turn each mp3 into a 'chapter', but that seems excessive to me and
not as easy as creating a basic data CD holding 700MB of mp3's. I
suppose this question can be closed then, unless anyone else is aware
of a Name Brand that is capable of such a basic feat. I've tried SONY
and KENWOOD so far to no avail.
Thanks again.

Hi,

The reason for this is due to the amount of files (MP3's) that could
fit on a DVD R. The file system handler on none computer based DVD
players can not handle the amount of files on the disk (yet). But
soon, like everything else, will be common.

Well there is my free advice.
Enough details for a researcher to fill in.
Good Luck.
