I need to know the name of a movie. I will try my best to write everything I remember about it. This is what I can remember from it (some of it may not have happened just like below): It a drama set in Europe 1700 or 1800s. I think the movie might have been made in the 60s and I am 99% sure it was not made in the 90s Scenes I can remember: It basically has him removing his clothes and I don't remember if he is dancing or not but its in the middle of the street. I think from what I remember there is a girl in the window watching him as well as the people on the street. I think it is something about cleansing himself or forsaking all. There is something about a dye factory and clothes are a major symbol in the movie. He starts a church I remember something about a cornerstone. He is starving and later a woman gives him some bread. I believe he is on a quest later on in the movie to talk to the pope. He does end up talking to him. The pope is really old in the movie and has a Hat or Crown on his head and he removes it and I think he put some thing on or over the main character. I am not picky I just need the name of the movie and perhaps a link to a website about it and I will give 5 stars (or whatever the max) to the person that answers. |

Hello. I'm fairly certain that the movie that you're describing is Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972). The lead character in the movie is Francesco (St Francis of Assisi). "The story follows young Francesco (Graham Faulkner) as he emerges from post-war trauma, renounces all worldly possessions, and attains enlightenment as a simple monk. His materialist father wants him to go into his textile business, but local beauty Claire (Judy Bowker) understands Francesco?s preference for dallying amid the fields of flowers. They start their own church and gradually attract a large following, arousing the ire of the local bishop who sends soldiers to shut them down. Puzzled by such hypocrisy, Francesco walks barefoot all the way to the Vatican for a climactic confrontation with the Pope (Alec Guinness)." source: playusa.com http://www.playusa.com/playusa.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=153848 "Francis undergoes an anguished transformation which culminates in his appearing before the local bishop and removing his clothes to renounce his previous life and family before dedicating himself to God. The culminating dramatic moment is Francis' appearance before Pope Innocent III (Sir Alec Guinness)," source: Barnesandnoble.com http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?cds2Pid=1535&ean=97360809848 ------- search strategy: I recognized the description of the life of St Francisc of Assisi from your description. I hope this helps. |
