I would like to know the average hourly rate (or salary - based on position)
for the following positions at a
1. Small medical clinic (1-4 doctors in size)
and at a
2. larger clinic (25 or more doctors) and at a
3. major hospital:
Positions:
receptionist
appointment scheduling clerk
filing clerk
summer help (usually high school students/college students; filing,
photocopying, phones, etc)
coding and billing clerk
collections clerk
accounting clerk
general office staff (high school. degree only: filing,
phones/appointment/photocopying)
general office staff with 2 and 4 year college degree, but no special
medical training
medical assistant
nursing assistant
lab technician
medical secretary/ administrative assistant (with specific medical
training, 2-4 year degree)
secretary/administrative assistant (no specific medical training, (but
with 2 or 4 year degree))
esthetician (here I need hourly rate/salary from working in a
non-medical "spa"[from low end to upscale spas] vs. medical clinic
"spa" and(if available) hospital spa
patient coordinator
marketing/PR coordinator
L.P.N.
R.N. 2 year degree
R.N. 4 year degree
nurse practitioner
nurse clinician
Physician's assistant
office manager (generally 4 year college degree)
practice administrator (with advanced/master's degree in medical
practice administration for clinics and master?s in hospital
administration for larger clinics/hospitals)
I need these also with the average salaries for:
starting/new/fresh out of school
3 years experience
5 years experience
10+ years experience.
Finally for the salaries/hourly rates given,
I need them in 2 forms:
1. "average" for United States salary/hourly rate (with ranges, high to low)
2. Specific "average? for Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota
(with ranges, high to low).
For all figures, please give a year that these figures were
determined, so I can make the necessary adjustments for cost of living
(for example, if the best average was from 2001, I may need to adjust,
based on COL).
As you can tell, I am expanding a medical practice and am looking for
guidance in establishing fair salaries when I am making job offers.
Please put all the info in a concise format (table, or several
tables?) for easy reference.
Thanks,

crutchfield,
From what I am finding out, it seems salary is really based more on
experence then size of practice. A small clinic may pass you less then
a large hospital, but it's all the same range no matter what the
size.... but....oh, how to explain this :)
A small clinic pays a entry level recptionist 18,000
A medium clinic, because they have more $, pays a entry level receptionist 20,000
A hospital pays an entry level receptionist 21,000
A small clinic pays a 5 years experenced receptionist 21,000
A medium clinic pays a 5 years experenced receptionist 23,000
A hospital pays a 5 years experenced receptionist 24,500
A small clinic pays a 10+ years experenced receptionist 23,300
A medium clinic pays a 10+ years experenced receptionist 25,000
A hospital pays a 10+ years experenced receptionist 27,000
However, they are all within the average salary of a receptionist,
which is listed as a national average of 18,000 to 27,000 based on
experence.
So, what I guess I'm asking is are you ok with national averages for
entry level to experenced, bacause size of clinic is not seeming to be
much of a factor in the ranges published.
Let me know and I will proceed in reseachering this question some
more. I'm just afraid with all of those variables, that it will be
impossible to get an answer for every single variable that might fall
in a range and you'll miss out on the same information we could get
you in a simpler form that still covers all of those bases.

It seems that the size of the clinic does make a subatantial
difference in pay rate- let's take your expericnced receptionist
example, if you translate the wage diffences into hourly rates, there
is almost a 2.00 per hour difference betweent the 2. this is a big
deal when making a job offer, especially when one says "so and so
offers 2.00 more" and I can say yes, but that is at a hosptital, the
average for a small clinic is............
so these varibles are important for me to know.
thanks for all your help on this.
