If you are referring to the internal memory of your computer the best advice I can give you is to unload some unneeded programs to free up some memory , however if with memory you refer to hard disk space available the first few things you can do to free up some space are 1. go to Start programs accessoires and run Disk cleanup 2. start your browser and select tools select internet options and hit the button delete files 3.go to start setting control panel and select add/remove programs and look for programs you haven't used for a very long time (it is noted behind the program) and uninstall whatever you do not use 4. go to your email program and delete all the emails you deleted in the deleted folder and then compress the database |

hi -- to clarify the earlier comment, "memory" refers to RAM (random-access memory). this is what the CPU uses in order to accomplish anything. it's pure electricity and volatile, meaning everything in RAM vanishes when the power's cut off (including that report you've sweated over for the past three hours). what you see when you right-click "properties" for C: is your hard drive, or "storage". the hard drive runs on magnetic, optical, or a combination of principles and is stable, meaning when you turn the computer on, it's all still there (including your report, assuming you saved it!). if you have only 112 Mb of storage left, this is a very serious problem unless your hard drive is only half a gig. for optimal performance, you need to keep at least 25% of your hard drive free; otherwise, the results could be catastrophic (such as getting an "invalid system disk" or "non-system disk or disk error" when you try to boot up because system files have been overwritten or corrupted). do the following, in order of appearance: 1. clean the disk as suggested above. there is an excellent utility available at http://www.langa.com (look in "downloads") -- it's a little batch file you install and it scrubs your hard drive clean of all kinds of crap lurking in odd and assorted nooks and crannies. 2. uninstall (through the control panel, pls, not by pushing the delete button!) any program you've not used in the past six months. chances are, you never will. 3. delete all those email attachments, especially the MPEGs. 4. burn all those MP3s to CD in MP3 format and delete them from your hard drive. 5 (optional). buy a second hard drive -- today's minimum recommended hard drive is 20Gb. as for your RAM, make sure you've not got fifteen zillion apps loading whenever windows starts. realplayer, winamp agent, and instant messenger programs are bad for that. hope this helps! =) |

Dear Corwin, Thanks for your help ... deleting a few musty ole proggies helped a lot. I already delete old mail ... but had forgotten about my filing cabinet which was rather stagnant! Your advice was helpful, and I thank you for taking the time to help me out. Namaste [love and light] to you. Best wishes, FF |
