North American Residential Broadband Subscribers The total number of residential cable modem and DSL subscribers in the U.S. and Canada topped the 28-million mark at the end of 2003 cable maintained a 64.5% share of the installed residential broadband subscriber base compared to DSL. DSL providers finished 2003 with over 10 million residential high-speed Internet subscribers in North America, compared to 18.2 million for cable.
