Hi,

My flatmate recently browsed parasite rich internet sites, and now my
google toolbar is gone.

It still shows in the drop down list of toolbars, and is tickable, but
wont show in IE 6.0.

Action taken so far -

Uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Toolbar several times.

Ran spybot, and adware to remove parasites.

Reinstalled Windows XP

I have Hijackthis and can post log if anyone can decipher it.

Other toolbars (ie MSN Toolbar) work fine, but I do not want another
toolbars. I want my Googlebar!

Also, I tried installing the Google Deskbar, which I hoped would fill
the gap left by the IE Toolbar, but that won't work either. It
appears to install, but when I click show Google deskbar nothing
happens.

Any help getting this problem fixed would be much appreciated.

Denis

Hi Denis,

Try CWShredder if you haven't yet (update before using):
http://www.spychecker.com/program/coolwebshredder.html

Don't know if ToolBarCop would help:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/toolbarcop.htm

"Toolbarcop can be used to eliminate malware toolbands, toolbar icons
and browser helper objects in Internet Explorer."

Post your HijackThis log on the Spyware forum:
Spyware and Hijackware Removal Support:

Good luck - let us know how it goes,

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I hadn't downloaded ToolBarCop, but have
done so now. It looks like an excelent program, but so far has not
helped me solve my problem.

I also tried CWShredder, but that told me my system was clean as a whistle.

However, I took your advice and posted a Hijackthis log to the spyware
forum, where I hope to get a response. I will let you know.

In the meantime you can view that post if you want to get more details
and background to action taken thus far.

Again, thanks again for your help.

You are not alone with this problem, but I can tell you one thing:
it's not a Spyware problem. I tried to install Google toolbar after
installing Windows (in a new HD and without updating Internet
Explorer). No success. I contacted Google Toolbar support and sent
Regmon log files. Maybe they can solve this problem (since I can
install any other toolbars).
