Question ID: 332591
Was Mumia Abu-Jamal wrongly accused of the murder of the police officer in 1981?

I'm looking for objective opinions from experts in the case. If this
question can't be anwered exactly, I'd like to know as many facts
about the case as possible (not skewed facts by people who want him
killed or freed).($15.00)

Dear D Watman,

The question that many activists ask is not only "was he wrongly
accused" (whether or not he murdered Daniel Faulkner), but also
whether or not his trail was a fair trail (and, anti-death-penalty
activists claim: even if he committed the murdered and got a fair
trail, death penalty is against human rights).

So, we have three questions here:
- Did he do it?
- After he was accused (rightly or wrongly so), did he receive a fair trail?
- Is the punishment in acceptance with human rights?

As for the first question, as you said yourself, I am not sure it is
answerable. Two (maybe three) people knew the truth for sure: Abu
Jamal, Daniel Faulkner, who was murdered(, and maybe the murderer, if
it is not the same person as Jamal).

As for the fair trail argument, this could be examined by a careful
examination of the court material, in comparison to other trails and
to admissability of evidences.

In this case, there are several articles I could point you to (as you
mentioned, not from activists in any "side"), to the question of a
fair trail. However, I am not sure if that's what you wanted.

Thank you for your thorough response and clarification. You have
broken it down very well and yes I'd like it if you could point me to
the articles that talk about wether he had a fair trial or not.

thanx again,
Dan
