Hi,

I think in most cases the best way to keep up with latest developments
is to cut out the middle man and go straight to the source.
The Microsoft Developers Network is the place to go for information on
all their development tools including Visual Basic.

Microsoft Developers Network
http://msdn.microsoft.com/

The Sun Microsystems site provides news from around the Industry. It
is also the place to go for the latest in Java technology.

Sun - Headline news
http://industry.java.sun.com/

If you are interested in SQL you may find the SQLWire web site
informative.

SQLWire
http://sqlwire.com

DevEdge is Netscape's web developer resource centre. This will
provide the latest on Netscape browsers, JavaScript etc.

DevEdge

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was created to, amongst other
things, create standards for the Web.

If you are interested in "open source" you may find these interesting:

Linux
http://www.linux.org/

PHP
http://www.php.net/

Apache
http://www.apache.org/

Mysql

If you want to get the information before the news sites you may find
it helpful to check for press releases from the main companies
involved. Nearly all the big companies publish press releases on the
web. For instance:

Borland:
http://www.borland.com/news/press_releases/

Macromedia
http://www.macromedia.com/macromedia/proom/pr/

It is relatively easy to find press releases by searching Google:

Hi ,

stuff on

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/

Sources are a great place to get what you want but often , when it
comes to programming , finding sample source codes , and other
innovative stuff the 'Source' sites tend to be found wanting . It
helps to have a look at other sites which may have what you are
looking for .

with best regards ,

 blueskies .

http://www.crn.com/ , a great site for a whole lot of news and
   information .

Weblogs. Surprised no one has mentioned them. Kinda like looking for a
needle in a haystack though. Have lots of time, you'll get
sidetracked. Go to Google and do a search for Java Weblogs, "Visual
Basic" Weblogs, etc. I understand Scripting News is one of the
biggies. http://www.scripting.com/ Once you get into a really good
weblog you've hit paydirt, they link to other ones!
