I think that I am running the latest edition of explorer with
6.0.2800. About a week ago I noticed that something had hijacked my
browser after my son had used my computer over the weekend. It keeps
resetting my Home site to some google wannabe site. I keep setting it
back to google and it keeps going back to some other site. For
instance if I type in cs.com and hit enter or go it will redirect me
to something like this http://searchpage.cc/cs.com. Also I keep
getting this error message just about every time I request a new page:
A runtime error has occured. Do you wish to debug? Line: 15 Error
"cltapis" is undefined YES or NO. I did a search in google for the
word cltapis and only one referrence came up to a forum where some
person was describing similiar symptoms as mine and someone replied
back to do a file search and find a file called INTLBAND.HTM and
rename it to INTLBAND.OLD but everytime I try to highlight the file
which I did find, the search window crashes or if I go through the
folder directly the folder itself crashes and says this: explore.exe -
Application Error The instruction at "0x6370044d" referenced memory at
"0x00000000", The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate
the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program OK or CANCEL? This is
quite fustrating and weird. By the way I'm running Windows Pro 2000
with the newest version of Microsoft Office. Please tell me what to do
to rid myself of this annoying intrusion!

Hi extraextra,

You have a nasty adware and it may be a bit tricky to get rid of it -
you'll have to run several programs. If you have trouble going to the
websites, try *typing* in the *entire* URL into the address bar
(including the http://).

1) Download CWShredder (update before running it):
http://www.spychecker.com/program/coolwebshredder.html

2) Download Adaware (update before running it):
Close all browsers and windows.
Settings (Gear at the top) / Tweaks / Scanning Engine:
Check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning"
Settings (Gear at the top) / Tweaks / Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot"
"Scan Now"
When it is finished scanning:
  Check "Use Custom scanning options"
  Check "Activate In-Depth Scan"
  "Select drives\folders to scan"
Select the active partition which is usually C:
"Next" to scan.

3) Download and run HijackThis (update before running it):

Post your HijackThis log on the following forum - they will tell you
if you need to delete anything:

Please let us know how that goes - good luck!

Cool thanks for the advise, I'll do it right away but what do you mean
by "update before running it?" Do you mean to check for the latest
version?

Hi extraextra,

No, you will be downloading the latest version. Spyware removal
software is the same as virus scan software, in that before you scan,
you need to get the latest detection updates to ensure they'll find
the newest adware / virus on your computer.
