Hello, I ran out of time, so I will post what I have found, and finish
later, if no one else finishes it first!

How many commercial websites are there on the internet?
If you mean sites with the .com extension, there are, as of January
2002 , 84,781,404 registered .com sites. This figure increases daily.
The actual number is impossible to quantitate, as many are added
daily, as well as many disolve or expire daily as well. Keep in mind
that many "commercial" sites end in .net, or .biz as well. There were
only 1,841 .biz sites at this time. However, if you click on the
following link, you can see the stats for ALL the web domains.

How much does the average website spend on advertising/marketing per
year? e-Bay spent 45.1 million dollars on on-line spending in 2001,
more than General Motors, who spent $43.3 million.

While this is not nearly "average", it is a huge amount! According to
the above web article, web advertising has decreasd 14.7 % from 2000
to 2001. Banner ads, and smaller button ads however saw a 15 %
increase in the same time period.

What % of websites are profitable?
According to this website:
             http://www.e-gateway.net/infoarea/news/news.cfm?nid=565
38% of online retailers are making a profit.

try to get back to this later. Thanks!
