Bearing in mind the Important Disclaimer at the bottom of the
page, and keeping in mind that I am not a medical expert of
any sort, I can nonetheless provide you with detailed
instructions for the Edgar Cayce 3-day Apple Fast.
This particular remedy is more applicable if you are
a younger person, as some older persons might experience
undue stress of the digestive tract.

Edgar Cayce was/is a renowned psychic from the 1920s who
entered a trance state and recorded multiple thousands of
sessions in which he addressed the health and spiritual
well-being of as many people who came to him for help.
From this huge body of work, several unique therapies
emerged as useful for specific conditions. The Apple Fast
is such a therapy, which is purported to have been
successfully used in taking people off heroin without
severe withdrawal symptoms.

Cayce attracted the interest and eventually, devotion,
of some of the finest medical doctors of the time, who
worked with the remedies suggested in the readings and
manned a Treatment Center which still exists at the
Cayce headquarters in Virginia Beach. The most famous
of these doctors was Harold J. Reilly, who authored
several books about the Cayce remedies.

I personally used it to quit smoking a pack a day,
without any difficulty. A side benefit that I noted
was that, because it had removed all traces of nicotine
from my system, I experienced no cravings afterwards.
I believe this is because cravings are normally caused
by the fact that traces of toxins like nicotine are
normally stored deep in the internal organs like the
liver and kidneys, and are gradually released into the
bloodstream for months afterward. When these toxins
enter the bloodstream, they go to the tongue where
they can produce the sense of having a 'taste for a
cigarette', e.g., and the effects of experiencing it
in the blood can cause the sensation of having just
smoked a cigarette, and trigger the desire for another.
The Apple Fast resolves this by removing all traces of
the toxins, by fooling the body into releasing toxins
from the internal organs as a result of the 'fasting'
aspect.

For me, it was as if I had never smoked, and there had
never been any nicotine in my body. Another benefit of
this is that I had no 'quitter's sensitivity' to smoke
around me. It didn't bother me or entice me in the least.
I rarely even noticed it.

If you believe this would satisfy your interests, I would
be happy to provide it as an answer.

Up and till the age of 35 I had never taken recreational substances.
I took Qat for 10 months during which time I experienced incredible
euphoria and sharpness of mind. I then quit the substance for over a
year and began using it again in Decemebr 2003. In consultation with
my doctor I was booked into a hospital where I was given no medication
other thnan rivotril (instead of my usual immovane). The only
noticeable withdrawl was total exhuastion. I am in no position to
take time off work again and need to find an alternative which will
naturally e followed up by attendance at Narcotics Anon.

While I simply can't guarantee your personal results,
the Apple Fast has the advantage of being completed in
3 days. If you begin the fast on a Friday, you can
complete it on Sunday and begin a modified diet on
Monday. Again, if you're willing to attempt this, I
will post detailed instructions as an answer.

Thank you for allowing me to share this powerful method
with you. I'm confident the results will exceed your
expectations. The official website for the Edgar Cayce
organization is here:
http://www.edgarcayce.org/

The Edgar Cayce Apple Fast

Eat nothing but raw apples for 3 days, supplemented by
extra-virgin olive oil - either a tablespoon 3x/day, or
a half cup at the end of the fast. The apples contain
pectin, which leeches toxins from the blood stream and
intestines. It will also leech anything with food value,
so don't eat anything else, including vitamins (which
serve only to assist in the absorption and digestion of
other foods, and are useless by themselves). If you add
anything else to the diet, the pectin will be wasted in
leeching and absorbing that, rather than the toxins.

Drink only distilled water, for the same reason. Normal
water contains minerals, which will waste the absorptive
power of the apples.

The olive oil is for the purpose of soothing and nourishing
the intestines. The peels of the raw apples will scrape
your digestive tract clean of any impactions and traces
of waste matter. This can produce mild to moderate distress,
especially among the elderly or those who have avoided the
regular use of fiber in their diet, and truthfully, the
vast majority of us ingest much too little in the way of
raw fruits and vegetables. The original recommendation
was to consume a half cup of cold-pressed olive oil at
the end of the fast. This is in keeping with the idea of
not ingesting anything but apples during the diet, but
some people found this too daunting, so it was modified
to a tablespoon, 3x a day. I would personally recommend
the half cup at the end, which seems to have some unique
benefits that are hard to describe. This can be made
easier by pinching your nostrils as you drink it, to
moderate the strong flavor, and by having a chunk of
raw apple handy to chew immediately afterward, in order
to cleanse your palate of the taste.

It's called a fast because, by eating only apples, the
body is fooled into a fasting mode, so it starts dumping
toxins from the liver, kidneys, and other internal organs,
into the bloodstream, where they can be absorbed by the
pectin. Nonetheless, be prepared to stink and feel grouchy
on the 2nd day, due to the release of all the toxins into
your system. Best to start on a Friday and finish on a
Sunday. You won't want to be around people on the second
day. You will likely be very irritable. If you are living
with family or a roommate, explain to them what you're
doing, and enlist their support in giving you some space.

Eat a minimum of 8-10 apples a day. You may be sick of them
before you're done, but they will remove every trace of toxic
substances from your system. You can eat as many as you like,
and should definitely eat one or more, as desired, whenever
you experience hunger or a craving of any kind.

Cayce specified certain varieties of apples as being most
effective:

"Those that pertain to those activities of the Jonathan
variety of the apple, or the jenneting; the Black
Arkansas, the Oregon Red, (which are the ones you have
 here), the Sheepnose, the Delicious, the Arkansas Russet;
any of those that are of the jenneting variety."

The Edgar Cayce site in Australia:
http://www.cayce.egympie.com.au/HealthAppleDiet.htm

I have always used Yellow Delicious apples, as they taste
quite good, and are easy to obtain nationwide.

You can supplement the diet with one other thing, but only
if you must, due to feeling physically weak, in which case
you can add the juice of a lemon to distilled water with a
bit of raw honey (don't use honey with Grade A on the label).
This will strengthen you. Nonetheless, Cayce noted that one
shouldn't try to "work like a horse" while doing the fast,
which could prove debilitating. If you work construction,
e.g., it would be best to take Friday off to initiate the
fast.

This method is an excellent cleansing diet in general, and
will produce some weight loss. If you want to maintain the
weight loss, stay away from starches in general, white flour,
white sugar, too much salt, and milk. This diet may prove too
extreme for people who are very overweight, and/or have never
fasted before, in which case, do it under your doctor's
supervision.

Break the fast gently, with some yoghurt to reinforce the
friendly intestinal flora, followed by some soft raw fruits,
and then some soft cooked veggies a bit later. Then, once
you can feel your digestive system returning to normal, follow
your appestat (appetite thermostat) from there, though you
might want to avoid starches for awhile, as noted above, and
very heavy (hard to digest) foods like cheeseburgers, at
least until you can guage how your system responds to lighter
foods.

It is also wise to think of fasting and cleansing as a process
which involves not just the body, but the mind and emotions.
While physically fasting from food and the substance you are
giving up, also fast from thoughts of that substance and the
emotional connection you have with it. Keep your attention
on the kinds of thoughts and feelings you would prefer to
have as a result of the process. Begin to think of yourself
as someone who has a great respect for your body and is
thoughtful about what goes into it. When you drift into old
patterns of thinking and feeling which are products of the
self-image which was associated with drug use, simply observe
this occurring, and gently re-focus your thoughts and feelings
on the self-image you would prefer as an outcome of this process.

I wish you success in this endeavor.

It seems you have spent the time since I answered the
question talking to eminent doctors, rather than applying
the information you specifically requested from me:

"Yes, please provide me with comprehensive instructions
to follow for the Edgar Cayce 3-day apple fast.
I will accept this as my answer."

In your rating remarks, you said:

"I have spoken to four emminent doctors who profess to never
having heard of Edgar Cayce nor to ever having read about
the 3-day apple fast in any of the medical literature."

I never suggested that the Cayce's works or remedies
had been widely accepted by the *current* medical
establishment. Rather, I said:

"Cayce attracted the interest and eventually, devotion,
of some of the finest medical doctors OF THE TIME
["Edgar Cayce was/is a renowned psychic from the 1920s"],
who worked with the remedies suggested in the readings
and manned a Treatment Center which still exists at the
Cayce headquarters in Virginia Beach. The most famous
of these doctors was Harold J. Reilly, who authored
several books about the Cayce remedies."

The following page from The A.R.E. of New York announces
the 6th Anniversary Celebration of that organization,
featuring the keynote speaker, Jeanette Thomas:

"Jeanette Thomas, former Administrator of Records for the
Edgar Cayce Foundation, Jeanette joined the A.R.E. in
1979 as assistant to Gladys Davis Turner, Cayce's
legendary secretary. She also was trained by, and taught
massage under, Dr. Harold J. Reilly."

[...]

"With passion and dry humor, she tells the amazing story
of Edgar Cayce the man, and some of the giants who have
carried on his Work (such as Harold J. Reilly, whose
physiotherapy practice here in N.Y.C. once kept such
illustrious clients as Bob Hope in vibrant health using
 Cayce principles.)"
http://www.mindspring.com/~areofnyc/areofnyc/calendar/events03/annivers.htm

If having Bob Hope as a client doesn't qualify a
doctor as eminent, I'm not sure what does.

Books written by Harold Reilly, courtesy of Alibris.com:
http://www.alibris.com/search/books/author/Reilly,%20Harold%20J.

A simple Request for Clarification, as I mentioned at
the close of my answer, could have cleared all this up.

Please do actually *try* the Apple Fast.

Best regards...

Hi davidjac~

Qat (also spelled khat or kat) has ephedrine-like compounds, and is
therefore best treated like an amphetamine. This means that it can be
dangerous to detox on your own. All recommendations I can find insist
that detox should be in-patient.

Regards,
Kriswrite
