Please find me a high school, college or university that will accept my donation
of my Papua New Guinea primative artifacts. I have hand carvings, penis covers,
baskets, hand made woman's skirt and bag, spears, flutes, dagger,
hatchet,masks, and other items.

judypoody-ga,

As a possessor of some Papua New Guinea artifacts myself, I'm glad to
see your recognition of their interest and importance.

However, I doubt any researcher here can *guarantee* that a school
would be willing to accept your donated artifacts -- they would most
certainly want to communicate directly with you, and find out more
details about the significance of your collection.

The best we can probably do is identify some potential recipients with
a known interest in Papua New Guinea, and provide you with contact
information so you can initiate a conversation with them.

Would that sort of information suffice as an answer to your question?

And by the way, if you give as a general indiciation of where you live
(city, state or province, for instance), this would be helpful as
well.

Thanks.

I would be satisfied if I had names, addresses and phone numbers of
contact people at as many organizations as possible. I am willing to
ship anywhere in the USA. I don't want to sell only to donate with a
written letter stating
I made the donation to a non-profit and we would discuss the amount of
the value. I live in Northern Michigan.

Howdy Judypoody!

To start with, Michigan State University has a large anthropology
collection and is part of the Smithsonian Institution. Although most
of their collection is devoted to "things Michigan", they do have a
growing world cultures collection and may be interested in your
artifacts.

However, if Michigan State isn't the place for you, my guess is that
places with anthropology or history departments that are already
interested in Papua New Guinea or the South Pacific would be more
interested in your collection. Based on that idea, I did some
research and have turned up the following universities, high schools,
and contacts. Please let me know if these meet your needs. If so, I
will post them as an answer. If not, let me know what additional
information you are looking for and I will keep hunting.

Howdy Judypoody!

Ah, art schools. Absolutely. The contact information for the Kendall
College of Art and Design is below. I've also included information
for two other schools in Michigan with a strong BFA program. Because
it is more difficult to identify appropriate faculty departments,
these contacts are for development and institutional advancement
departments. Let me know if these fit your need or if you would like
others.

For admittedly selfish reasons, I'm now posting the question
clarification requests as an answer. If this information doesn't meet
your needs, please let me know and I will clarify the answer. It is
my personal goal as a researcher and the goal of Google Answers for
you to get the information you need.

Depending on the nature of your donation, the Royal Ontario Museum
(http://www.rom.on.ca/) may be interested in acquiring and exhibiting
your collection. This Toronto, ON based museum showcases a variety of
historical, anthropological, natural, and cultural exhibits, and has
items ranging from dinosaur bones to ancient pottery to live fish
aquariums.
The ROM is one of the largest musems in Ontario, is affiliated with
the University of Toronto (for research), had 1.05 million visitors in
2001/2002, and is undergoing an ambitious expansion project, which
they called Renaissance ROM.

According to their page on gifts to the ROM:
-----
As a registered charity, the Royal Ontario Museum can issue donation
receipts for the fair
market value of gifts in kind, such as artifacts or specimens.
Additional tax benefits can be afforded to you if your gift is
certified as being of cultural importance and national significance by
the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board.

Please call Michelle Osborne, Senior Development Officer, Gift
Planning, at 416-586-8012 or e-mail at mosborne@rom.on.ca
-----

I encourage you to contact the Royal Ontario Museum to see if they are
interested in your artifacts.
