I would like to find a web source of photographs of bacterial cultures grown on petri plates to which an antibiotic has been added. The usual way of doing this in the lab is to place round discs of paper that have been soaked in antibiotic on a cultured plate. The effect of the antibiotic shows up as zones of inhibited growth. This is being requested to try to develop a lab exercise for a correspondence course where students will have no access to lab equipment. The ideal photographs would show different antibiotics being used with the same bacteria to show the relative effectiveness. | |

Hello wildbill1-ga, Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad the link I provided earlier was what you are looking for. Here are a few additional links of interest. They are mostly unadorned photographs, but there are one or two that include drawings and/or annotations that I thought might be useful for your purposes. You'll have to give them a test run to see how they look in grey scale, but I suspect there's enough diversity here that you'll find what you need. If you need any additional information, just give me a holler...and best of luck with your correspondence course. pafalafa-ga ========== http://people.ku.edu/~jbrown/antibiotic.html http://www.nobel.se/medicine/educational/penicillin/readmore.html [instructive drawing ] http://www.nerc-oxford.ac.uk/cehoxford/popups/b8.htm http://web.ukonline.co.uk/webwise/spinneret/microbes/sendsk.htm [moving your mouse over the picture opens up instructive text] http://www2.austin.cc.tx.us/microbugz/48antibio.html http://www2.austin.cc.tx.us/microbugz/48antibio.html http://agresearch.tamu.edu/BST.htm ========== Again, just let me know if you need additional information. search strategy: Searched Google Images for antibiotic and scanned the results for petri dish pictures: http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=antibiotic You might want to look over the image results yourself, as there's a ton and a half of additional material here. |
