Hi Varue!
This has taken quite a bit of searching, but Ive found what you are
looking for.
The history of the name Varue goes back over 1000 years to a man of
that name living in Normandy, France. There is no record of the date
of his birth, however it is known that his fathers name was Deomedes
and that Varue fathered a son, Miles, (also known as Miles of
Normandy), in the year 972.
(Remember that during this time people did not necessarily use a first
name and last name as we do today.)
Tombstone data on Varue can be seen here:

See the footnote at the bottom of that page. It seems to indicate that
there is record of the ancestors of Varue in the 41 AD registrar by
Bishop Marcelleas of Rome Descendant of the Dukes of Melan, leading
one to assume some sort of noble ancestry. Mélan, a small village in
Haute Province, in the south of France, 200km south of Grenoble and
150km north of Marseille.
Another geneology puts Varues birth around 940

The earliest Varue I can find in the US is a Joseph Varue, Married
Charlotte Athens on March 22, 1860 in Wells County, Indiana.

Now, all that said, it is important to understand that a living person
with the surname Varue may not be related to the Varue that weve
found. As I said earlier, people didnt necessarily use surnames and
pass them down through family lines back then.
Also, through immigration into English-speaking countries, many French
names have been Anglicized, that is, simplified in spelling for
English pronunciation. Your name, Varue, rather than originating with
the Varue of Normandy, could in fact be an anglicized version of any
of the following French names:
VARAUD, VAROZ, VARREAU, VARAU, VARROT, VARAUT, VARROS, VAREAU, VARAULT
.. which of course would imply a whole other origin. The only way for
you to find out for sure is to do a detailed genealogy of your family
on that side and see if you can find a link to the existing family
trees that trace back to Varue of Normandy. If not, you may instead
find that you had an ancestor with one of the above surnames and along
the way it got shortened.
One final note: I had a brief discussion with some other researchers
regarding the term Just Dealer that follows Varues entry in
rootsweb. At first my thought was that it was an actual job title or
nobility title, but the consensus seems to be that it just describes
how he did business: justly. As in, fairly. People were sometimes
described in those terms back then. Thats not an official answer to
that point, but its the best we could come up with. If I find out
anything different, I'll post it here.
Im glad to have been able to help you with your search for the origin
of this name. It was quite an interesting research project. If there
is anything here you need clarification on, please feel free to ask.
Thank you for using Google Answers,
K~
