Hello Michel,

These sites might help:

http://www.macoptions.com/os85/ A Beginner's Guide to the Mac
Tutorial updated Jan13, 2002 "These pages are intended to help those
who are new to the Mac Operating System (OS) get acquainted with their
new environment. Many of the tips will also be valuable to more
experienced users."

http://www.essentialmac.com/ The Essential Mac, by South Shore Mac
Users Group, Long Island, NY

http://imackid.com/imacnewbie/ The iMac newbie site, written by a kid
for kids, but could be useful

If you need to do any troubleshooting, Macinstruct might be useful
http://www.macinstruct.com/ as might the iMac support page at Apple:

oops, forgot to say, that there should be a tutorial on the iMac itself.

I've also found a site with instructions for connecting an iMac to the Internet
http://www.helpdesk.fl.net.au/imac/imacicw.htm

sorry about that, I saw it had been updated recently and assumed it
included info on all types of Mac

BTW, there is a book out this month on the iMac which might perhaps be
a useful reference for your friend's mother to have.

If you want to add a comment I wait a little while with the rating
since I think it closes the question...

Hi Michel,

There doesn't seem to be much out there on Powerbooks.
http://www.macinstruct.com/tutorials/oldindex.html has a couple of
articles on travelling with a Powerbook, but they don't look very
detailed

This is the official Apple support page for Powerbook G4
http://www.info.apple.com/usen/powerbook/ and it has a link for the G3
support as well

Apple again: "Getting started with your Powerbook"
http://manuals.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Manuals/powerbooks/0340709AGSPOWERBKG3.PDF
This is for the G3. It has diagrams of the important bits as well as
instructions.

To find out which OS you have - Go into the Apple menu, the first
option there would be called "About the Finder" in English, no idea
what it would say in Dutch! Click on that, and you will get to the OS
info - at the very least there should be a recognisable number, I
hope! - info from my techie partner who used to use Macs a lot

Hope this helps
