DURING THE VIETNAM WAR, THERE WAS A PLAQUE WHICH I BELIEVE WAS A
QUOTATION. IT HAD A BRIEF LEAD UP TO "THERE IS NOTHING SO PATHETIC AS
A MAN WHO BELIEVES THAT NOTHING IS WORTH DYING FOR." I'M NOT SURE OF
THE EXACT WORDING, BUT THIS IS CLOSE. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND (PART 1) THE
CORRECT WORDING, (PART 2) THE SOURCE/AUTHOR OF THE WORDS, AND (PART 3)
A PLAQUE (IF POSSIBLE). |

Dear earle,
Could it be this quote, maybe in a shortened version?
"If it should ever come to pass that nothing is worth dying for, then
so shall cease any reason for living."

I like the quote you sent, but that's not it. It had a sentence or 2
prior to the quote I posted and was not as "lofty" as what you sent.
Thanks, Earle

Earle,
This quote -- or anything like it -- isn't showing up, despite a lot
of fairly deep digging in Vietnam-era news and other sources.
Is there anything else you can tell us about the context of the quote?
Where did you come across it? How certain are you of the gist of the
wording? What leads you to believe it was printed on a plaque of some
sort? Where was the plaque?
Any other tidbits of information might just break this one loose.
Thanks.

It was on a brass plaque. I believe the plaque was on a wood backing.
I never saw it anywhere else in 20 yrs of the USAF, so I assume it
was made in the orient (it was Korea, Vietnam, etc style).
