I recently read an offhand mention that Stalin was considering
surrendering to the Germans in '42. But there was no citation, no more
information. And as there were no takers on my previous question,
asking for details (dates, how the offer was comprised, who was
involved), let me ask this, instead: IF there had been such an offer,
when is the latest date at which you think Stalin would have made it,
with what parameters (giving up the Ukraine, say), what justification,
and how would he have discussed the matter--covertly, of course--with
the Germans? (Who would he have picked as an envoy, for example, and
where would they have met? A neutral country? Berlin?)
I know that all of this is speculative, and it's difficult to 'answer'
speculation. But what I'm looking for is historical details (as my
grounding in Soviet history isn't good) about what would have followed
from this (possibly nonexistent) peace offer. So. If you take it as
fact that such an offer was made, how, who, when (late as possible),
and where? |
