Dear docfood-ga;

You guessed it: FUERU WAKAME (correct spelling) is deep green, leafy,
kelp-like seaweed that is dried, and often shredded. It can be added
to soups and salads or simply used as an elegant garnish for fish
dishes. The word ?wakame? is the Japanese equivalent of the English
word ?seaweed? so there are actually several different types of
?wakame? of which ?fueru? is only one. The word ?fueru? means, ?to
multiply? so the name ?fueru wakame? literally means, ?a bunch, or a
bundle of seaweed?, which is normally how the product is sold.

Many Japanese and Koreans believe that wakame serves as both food and
medicine and that consuming it purifies the blood. A company called
RIKEN, which specializes in health food items, is one of the leading
producers of wakame products.
