I have a schematic of a piece of audio electronics, which indicates a
C1M pot and also some D1M pots, i can't find definitions for the
various tapers (there are also some B50K's listed)

What makes you believe that these are other than linear
pots? It would seem to me that the designations you have
given as preceeding the values (C,D & B) would possess
some other significance within the circuit diagram.

Neither the old or new designations for pot tapers
use the letter D, as shown in the chart from Elliot
Sound Products' 'Beginner's Guide to Pots',
reproduced here:
-------------------------------------------------
Taper Old Code New Code Alternate
Linear A B LIN
Log (Audio) C A LOG
Antilog F N/A N/A

I assumed that because the industry uses letters for tapers and that
the only information imprinted upon the old pots themselves are
characters such as follows: D50K(ohms), that the letter refered to the
taper, as it does in others i've bought. The instructions with the
schematic also notes that the various 1 meg pots are of different
tapers.
