Rick, I e-mailed a nice lady at rootsweb.com and I just got this
message this morning. I believe it is the name you are asking for:

According to an article by Hilda Sverdrup in The Lower Columbia Press,
Friday, June 20, 1916, the Indian name of Kate Jurhs was Chechalis.

Hope this info helps you out,
Redhoss

Rick, thank you for your 5 star rating. Now I will try and be worthy.
I thought that the newspaper article reference looked very final and
that would be all that I would hear on the subject. However, I got
another e-mail this morning from Kate's great granddaughter (I have
omitted her name):

HELLO I AM D**** F******* C****** GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER
OF KATE. IN A OLD ENROLLEMENT APPLICATION IT SAYS HER
INDIAN NAME WAS "EULACKHOLTZ". L**** P***** AND I WILL
LOOK INTO THIS FURTHER.

I am very sorry for the possibly wrong info, but I feel like these
ladies will get to the bottom of the question. I will let you know
what their final answer is.

Rick, I have heard no more from anyone concerning Kate Juhrs. I wish I
knew which piece of information is correct. It is possible that both
are correct. I did a search under "Chechalis" and noticed that there
was a tribe by that name. I can't prove it, but I suspect that Kate
was of the "Chechalis" tribe and her Indian name was "EULACKHOLTZ".
However, this is just a guess and I will certainly understand if you
want to withdraw the question.
