I have a small watercolor of two children whispering to each other. It
is signed: H. M. Farrell, '16. The inscription on the back reads: "To
Agatha, Some day I shall find some one worthy of this. Don't you like
it ? St. Mary's Academy, (or College) Dec. 16, 1910, "Confidence", H.
M. Farrell". I want information on the artist.

Hi pup!

I'm very sorry but this artist does not appear to be very well known
at all.
An in-depth search on Google (including searching "H H Farrell" and "M
M Farrell") provided no real leads - the only information I could find
was this page which *might* be the same person :

PM / AD Designers & Artist Collaborators 1934-1942
[ http://www.drleslie.com/Contributors/contributorslist.shtml ]

The above link will take you to a magazine archive site which features
an artist of a similar name and period in time who contributed to an
issue in April-May 1941.

It is possible that this picture you refer to is simply a one-off gift
to his girlfriend, wife, sister or friend - the "To Agatha"
inscription gives me that impression.

If you have any more information to help with the research such as a
location (USA, UK, in which state/province you found the picture and
how you came to own it) would help a great deal because I could then
track down the college and maybe find out if this artist studied there
and so on...

regards,
errol-ga
