I am interested in any formal or informal data that analyses the
impact on children of living with their parents in several different
countries (and languages) from the ages of roughly 4 to 15.
Typically, the family may move with the fathers job.
Does travel 'broaden the mind' at this age. Or does it create instability.

I am not looking for a very detailed answer so all observations welcome.

There is no answer at this time.

Hi dewsbury,

I'm not a researcher..but..this sounds like my childhood...so i'll put
in my 2cents. My dad worked for an Int'l chemical company & he got
transfered a lot.
Between the ages of 4 & 18: I was born in Puerto Rico speaking
spanish...and them moved to Cleveland, Ohio/ London,England / Atlanta,
Georgia / Miami, Florida / Antwerp, Belgium....at 18 I left them in
Belgium and came back to the states to go to school.

Broaden my mind??? Absolutely....I definitely think i have a more
"global" perspective than most....i know that I and my brothers are
more accepting of different people & cultures & really embrace
diversity. We mostly went to International Schools...so our friends
were American/Arab/European/Asian....from all over the world...most of
their parents like ours. Our field trips were to the Alps & Italy,
Germany, ...to Paris and crossing the English channel on hovercraft,
my brother even went to Poland to play with a Polish highschool....not
to the local zoo. We learned a huge amount...looking back...it was a
great childhood.

Instability??? Yes...probably....after i came back to the states at
18..i thought "finally, i can settle down"....wrong....i moved 10
times in 5 years...why? not sure...just didn't feel settled...wasn't
quite sure where i wanted to live, where i fit in...lets just say i
had some "issues"...were those "issues" caused by the moving around?
maybe it had a bit to do with it...it was not easy....but..hindsight
is 20/20...i wouldn't change my experiance. I Didn't want to keep
moving..i really wanted roots...finally decided on a great
compromise....i live in one place....lived in ATL for 10 years
now.....but i work in the travel biz...it's the best of
both....building roots & able to travel quite a bit....thats how i've
decided to raise my kids...have the stability of "home" and
family....but expand their horizons, by traveling with them from an
early age.

So...there's my 2 or 3cents.
