Here's a picture of the watch I'm looking for: http://www.wam.umd.edu/~gsweeten/watch.jpg Now, here's the story. I bought this watch in Benin, West Africa, and wore it regularly for at least 6 months during which time the cheap metal of which it was made corroded severely, making the watch unwearable. I think the watch is a knock-off of a higher quality watchmaker's, but I'm not sure. Often, watches will be copied with the trademark very close to the real trademark (i.e. Ramona, Anona, or whatever.) I believe this particular watch was made by a manufacturer in Hong Kong: http://www.stylewatch.com/Search.asp?CompanyCode=506 If you can't tell from the picture, this watch has unique action. The red horizontal line does not move, but there are two dials below (the minute dial and the hour dial) that move in a clockwise direction. The time shown on the photo is 8:20. So here's what I want to know. A) Where can I order this exact watch? B) Was this Hong Kong-made watch modeled after another higher quality watch? C) If so, where can I get the original watch? D) If the exact watch cannot be found, nor can the original upon which this is based, can I at least buy a watch with similar action? I'm willing to pay $10 for an answer that covers either A, C or D. I'll consider adding a $10 tip for an answer that covers more. |

These are called "jump hour" wristwatchs. http://www.alanwatch.homestead.com/page16.html http://www.alanwatch.homestead.com/page8.html http://www.questodesign.com/index.html?target=p_2359.html&lang=en-us http://www.equationoftime.com/forums/WatchExchange/index.cgi?noframes;read=42824 X |

Thanks for that bit of research. A lot of those "jump hour" watches are hideously ugly and/or expensive! I had no idea. This is the closest I've found to the watch I'm looking for: http://www.watchismo.com/picQ.htm |

Hi There! Check out this auction on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31387&item=4906021945&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW&tc=photo There are two vintage watches for sale. One is by Jump Hour. It is also of the Amona Collection but it is blue. Auction ends in three days but I believe the link is viewable for up to 90. I've found that Ebay is often a great starting point when investigating rare or hard to find items. Hope the above is helpful. Schott23 |
