We have a working computer, but need to install the sound drivers to
get the speakers to work. The specs we have on the motherboard are:
P4X266 VL33-S
The bios string when it first boots is: 10/22/2001-P4X266-8233-6A6LW00BC-00

Hi Renvhoek,

Are you using a PCI sound card or is it built-in in the mobo?

If you are using a PCI sound card, can you please identify it?

There is sound built into the motherboard. We are trying to get that
to work, and it appears to be a "lack of drivers" issue.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. From my initial search, you have an Epox
motherboard. I located possible drivers for this mobo but just to be
sure that we'll get the exact driver, I need to get the model of your
mobo. It's usually printed on the center of the motherboard in big
letters or you can check your motherboard's manual.

If you have the manual, you can also identify your sound device if it
is Realtek, C-media, etc.

Hi:
Unfortunately the "P4X266" was what was printed on the motherboard.

Hello Jon,

Your mobo is an Epox board with a Via chipset. Your on-board sound
device is a Realtek ALC201A AC'97 CODEC. You can download the driver
from the following links. Choose the correct OS version, right-click
on the link and choosing "Save Target As..."

Realtek ALC XXX all versions A3.52 (Win98/SE/ME /NT/2K/XP)
http://www.epox.nl/Drivers/ALC/wdm_a352.exe

Realtek ALC XXX all versions A3.52 (NT4)
http://www.epox.nl/Drivers/ALC/nt4_a352.exe

You can download other drivers, including the Realtek Application
software through this link:

EPoX Computer Technical Support
http://www.epox.nl/english/support/drivers/audio.htm

Search strategy:

Google Web search for P4X266-8233-6A6LW00BC-00 + driver search in Epox
support page.

I hope this helps you. Should you have any comments/questions, please
feel free to post your clarification before rating this and I'll
attend to you as soon as possible. Thanks for asking.

Best regards,
Feilong
