Question ID: 33657
I have been told about a retail "buying group" in the Charleston SC
area for consumer electronics and appliances. The group is made up of
small local retail shops that combine their purchases to get better
pricing and product availability from manufacturers. I have been
unsucessful in locating the group online via standard search methods.

What "buying groups" exist in South Carolina for electronics or
appliances?
- Preferably meets in or near Charleston SC
- Preferably with an emphasis on consumer electronics

Note: I need consumer electronics and/or appliances, not health care,
insurance or other such buying groups which are easy to find in South
Carolina. The group also must be open to small businesses, not just
specific groups like Health Care Professionals.

What you are looking for is called a "purchasing consortium" (aka:
"buying group" "buying co-op" etc...), however, I'll be hanged if I
can find one in the Carolinas that meets your specifications.
Admittedly, I didn't look too hard because currently I'm doing this
for fun and not money so I am not going to spend money on phonecalls
and such.

The only thing I can think is that Charleston has a local chapter of a
consortium like Key America or NECO.

Sounds like you've run into the same road block I did. I have not
tried looking for "purchasing consortium" related data yet, so that
may help.

I know there is an electronics/appliances group in Charleston but so
far nobody has been able to give me the name or phone #. I do know
they meet in downtown Charleston once/month but other than that I
don't have much info.

Thanks for your attempt. Maybe someone out there will come across
something in the near future!
