I'm trying to determine the authenticity of this statement: "Majority of the people of Europe (71%) view Bush?s presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability." which came from here: http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/03/04/23_resume.html I'm being hammered by emails to back it up. Percenteges or not, some sort of reliable measurement of general Europen sentiment towards the US would help. Finding that exact statistic (71%) , if it's not been made up, would be just ducky. |

<European attitudes to the U.S. The 71% figure is widely quoted in a spoof CV of GeorgeW. Bush that has appeared on many websites including this one. http://www.gavinsblog.com/mt/archives/000784.html TIMEeurope magazine conducted a poll which asked "Who really poses the greatest danger to world peace? Iraq, North Korea or The United States." They received 700,000 responses. 86.9% voted for the United States. http://www.time.com/time/europe/gdml/peace2003.html Survey results. http://www.time.com/gdml.dyn The 71% figure may have come from reports that were made before the poll was finished, like this report from From The Wilderness Publications. http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/011203_time_poll.html A poll conducted by Harris Interactive between February 27 and March 4, 2004 found that 70% of respondents have negative opinions of President Bush. In contrast only 13% of Europeans have negative opinions of American people and 33% have negative opinions of the United States. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040324/nyw081_1.html A BBC poll found that almost two-thirds of respondents had an unfavourable opinion of George W Bush. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2994924.stm The Pew Research Center has the results of a survey conducted 8-16 Octobe2 2003 which found that 53 percent of Europeans thought America was a threat to world peace. http://people-press.org/commentary/display.php3?AnalysisID=77 A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center in association with the International Herald Tribune found mistrust of the United States was expressed in Germany (82%), France (78%) and Britain (58%). They also found European dislike of President George W. Bush with negative opinion of Bush in France and Germany ? 85%. http://journalism.berkeley.edu/projects/euromedia/archives/002332.html> <Search strategy:> <"threat to world peace" "time magazine"> <://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=%22threat+to+world+peace%22+%22time+magazine%22> <mistrust "conducted by" "european commission> <://www.google.com/search?q=mistrust+%22conducted+by%22+%22european+commission%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&start=10&sa=N> <"threat to world peace" "conducted by"> <://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=%22threat+to+world+peace%22+%22conducted+by%22> <bush 71 europeans "threat to world peace " ?resume> <://www.google.com/search?as_q=bush+71++europeans&num=10&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=threat+to+world+peace+&as_oq=&as_eq=resume&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&safe=images> <Hope this helps.> |
