I use google a lot, thanks for the good work. I recently purchased an
Okidata color laser printer that is giving me a problem when I try to
print from Word. I get an error message about margin adjustment. I
called Okidata, they could not help. I searched with okidata + c5100n
+ margin and did not get any good results... granted the printer is
realitively new and there may not be enough feedback on this subject.
Any help in refining my seach will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
in advance.

Different brands have different program interfaces and so I'm trying
to "feel" my way here. Go to the Printers folder in your system,
locate your printer, righ-click on it then go to Properties. If you
have an option or setting there that will change the printable area to
maximum please set it so that next time you print from Word, the
default printable area is set to maximum, thus you won't get that
margin adjustment message again. If the problem remains, check the
document you are printing for areas that go beyond your printer's
margin limit. The maximum limit for laser printers is usually .25 of
an inch around. Another solution to avoid the problem is to print your
document fit-to-page (if this applies). If this solves your problem,
please let me know and I'll post this as an answer. Thank you.

Hi,
Let me clarify what my problem is. I recently purchased an Okidata
C5100n color printer. It has a NIC interface (as well as USB), and I
have connected to a small network. At the time that I noticed my
problem only one computer and the printer were on the network. The
printer has a static IP address, the computer has a quasi static IP
address. If I attempt to print a document from Microsoft word, I get
an error message to the effect that the margins are beyond print area
allowed. If I proceed from this point the document will be printed,
but the text is a much smaller pitch then it should be. This only
occurs on the first document (not the first page), subseqent documents
print fine. If I print the same document on a different Okidata
printer connected via a parallel port or a third printer connected via
a USB port, the latter two print fine, the first time (so I am kind of
ruling out Word as the culpret). Since the driver for the printer is
supplied by Okidata, I contacted Okidata customer support. They were
not able to help me. This problem is not a "show stopper", but it is
an annoyance. As soon as I got off the phone I went to google to see
if I could find someone else that had this problem and perhaps a cure
for it. I did not have any luck. I did several searches using various
key words. I suspect it may have something to do with what is going on
in the network, but cannot be sure.
Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated

Try using OpenOffice.Org (download from http://www.openoffice.org/)
OR:
I don't know if your experienced with Word so you can understand it,
but try to reduce the margines in your document

Adjusting the margins in Word does not cure the problem.

Usually misbehaving printers are tamed by getting the latest drivers;
Uninstall the printer from the "Printers" folder and reinstall using
the new software. check here and see if it helps.

Otherwise the machine is faulty and should be replaced by the dealer
if it is still under warranty.

Observer-ga,
Totally correct. I updated to driver 4.4.1 now everything appears to
work okay. I will not know for sure until I run some more tests.
