My son is a CS major, and is dying to find a summer internship at
home. Living away and trying to find summer work in Dallas-Fort Worth
is not easy, and now everytime he comes home, he has been applying at
Target and places like that.
His friends all got internships through connections - father, uncle, a
company that gave them a scholarship - but he has none of these
connections.
So my question is this: How can he find an internship in a
system/computer related field? We have been through the usual paths -
monster, yahoo hot jobs, etc. He really doesn't want to work from
home, either. He'd like to get out of the house.
These are his words regarding his talents:
Extensive knowledge of Java...
Extensive knowledge of C++...
Moderate knowledge of C#... which is useful in conjunction with ASP.NET
or with the .NET Windows API...
Very Basic knowledge of PHP (enough to edit / fix other people's work
but not enough to design a webpage from scratch without major work)
Fair amount of knowledge of OOP design...
Fair amount of knowledge of computer architecture including
pipelining, bypassing, out of order execution, and branch prediction
(what I really want to do when I get out of college now)...
