Question ID: 338106
I have a small patio garden here in Hove (in the UK) and I would like
to grow a Pink which, as everyone knows, can be any of various Old
World plants of the caryophyllaceous genus DIANTHUS, such as the
Dianthus Plumarius.

Now, as you would expect, I don't want to grow just any old Pink, I
want the best of breed, one that will be the envy of all my
neighbours.

Not having any gardening skills whatsoever, I would appreciate some
advice that will point me in the right direction.

An artificial type is preferred.

Many thanks!

I have a common garden-variety Pink which I grew myself.

Not artificial, but definitely "old stock."

I wouldn't say that this particular Pink is "best of breed," but it's
hardy as a laurel, and although it is unlikely to inspire envy in the
neighbors, it is a rare bloom. There's only just the one, but some say
that's more than enough.

Many thanks, Pinkfreud

I only want one because, as you rightly observe, that's more than enough.

In the absence of any teeny weeny hint of an offer from you to
fabricate a look-a-like of your hardy specimen, I now intend looking
on ebay for one that will make you red with envy.
