Hello mscheibe-ga,

I remembered looking for a single narrow unit for one of my
apartments, they seem to try and make them about 2 inches too big for
any window you have. I did have some luck however. I found several low
btu narrow air conditioners that I think meet your needs perfectly.

I started by searching Sears.com for "air conditioner" and looked
through the selection. I found 2 closely designed items, and have
included the links to them below. They are both 14 1/2 inches wide,
and are both 6,000 btu's. However they are a little bit pricey at just
under 400 dollars. One is for standard windows, and the other for
casement.

Keywords for search: No keywords used...just went to sears online and
looked at the air conditioner selections.

After finding the first two, I began to get somewhat disgusted
by the offerings out there for this situation. It would seem to me
that the pricing is affected by the limited usage of these units. I
found another 400 dollar narrow window mount, and its link is below.

google search keywords:600 btu air conditioner

I stumbled across a few more after using new keywords to search,
these below are a little less expensive.

Google.com keywords: casement air conditioners

When all was said and done my final purchase was actually a
portable unit. Mine was similar to these, especially the one with the
built in heater. I was very impressed by how well they worked, and
noticed you get much more bang for your buck based on BTU to dollar
comparison.

OK...Sears has decided that outside links are bad, so please just goto
www.sears.com and in the upper left hand corner enter in "kenmore
70066" or "kenmore 72066"

and im sorry to say :

walmart.com has what you are looking for at a very reasonable price.
Also try "google" and look for casement air conditioners--they are
all 14 1/2 inches wide.
