Are animal bursas used as human food? A bursa can be any sac-like structure. But I am referring to the tough fluid-filled sacs near joints. Animal by-products in frankfurters, bologna, sausage might include bursas. But I am looking for the specific use of the bursa as a food. For example, imagine haggis made by stuffing offal, oats etc. into bursae instead of animal stomachs. In other words are bursas eaten directly like other "variety" meats e.g. tripe, tongue. Check my past questions and you will see that although I always set a low price, I give full star ratings to researchers and am not a difficult or picky customer. |

I gave this a shot, but I didn't find any evidence that bursae are specifically eaten, other than as ground-up byproducts. I must say that this was the most intriguing question I've researched today, so -- even though I did not find an answer for you -- I feel rewarded by the pleasure of the quest. I hope someone turns up some bursa burgers, bursa bits, or bursa bouillon for you. |
