I would like to know about the town of Merk, Hungary around 1900. I am interested in the social and political climate, but anything else is fine. Any reference to the surname Brothag in Merk at that time would be very welcome. |

Mérk is small village in Hungary, has about 2000 residents. Around 1900 it had a mainly kraut (German speaking) population, tried to keep its cultural difference. It had an enviably good working agriculture. The official homepage of Mérk: http://merk.keletnet.hu/, the history of Mérk http://merk.keletnet.hu/tortenelem.html both are in Hungarian. |

John Brothag, born in Hungary, no location given, in 1875 can be found http://www.ancestry.com/search/main.htm It starts with John, and lists several family members. You just need to give them your name and an e-mail address to get the info. It has been entered by Terry Bava, terry_bava@yahoo.com Have not found the town of Merk though. |
