How much money do parents in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area spend annually for private tutoring services for their kids in grades K through 12? I'm looking for the total market size, not a per capita number or some other number. The number should include all tutoring services, including private tutors. |

It seems unlikely that an accurate number can be found by any means. Private tutour could mean people who work for free, but accept gifts or sexual favors. Can you hope to tap into a significant part of that portion of the tutoring market? A better question might be are tutors typically paid $3 per hour or $30 per hour. My guess is closer to $3 per hour. You probably can not profitably tap into the low end of the tuteroring market even if you plan to use ilegal aliens. If we figure two million humans in the twin cities and vicinity, the market is two million dollars USA per year, excluding portions of the market that are unreachable except by outstanding results at a large loss rather than a profit. That is my guess, assuming Twin Cities is Mineapollis and Saint Paul. Neil |

Sorry you did specify Mineapolis and Saint Paul Do you want to include any portion of the money spent by the public school system tutoring children who are accademically challanged? Special Education? Sylvian? Children who are instaltionalized = orphans, abused, delinquents etc? Do you want to inlude any portion of the tuetion paid by parents who have their children enrolled in private and religious schools. Do you want to include any portion of Big Brother, Big Sister, Optimists Club, Boy's Clubs of America or other mentoring programs? Neil |

Good questions Neil. I'm interested in tutoring services purchased by parents to help their kids improve in reading, math and study skills. To simplify a bit, we can assume that the market is served by the Sylvans, Huntingtons and KnowledgePoints of the world -- who charge between $35 and $60 per hour -- and private tutors, who may be moonlighting teachers, for example. I'm not looking for private school tuition dollars or for money spent by anyone other than parents. Glenn |
