Greetings! I am a grantwriter, so I comment without searching Google.
The best way to research foundations that accept individual grants is
to visit The Foundation Center at http://www.fdncenter.org and
subscribe to their Foundation Grants for Individuals service for one
month (go directly to this page at http://gtionline.fdncenter.org/
where you will see in the upper right of the page a link to "Sample
Record" - this will give you an idea of the way they present
information). The cost is $9.95 a month. When subscribing, you will
be granted access to their listings, and you may search keywords for
specific foundations which disperse grant money for various reasons.
The Foundation Center is a sort of clearing house for researching
grant money. It is a stellar service when used to its fullest
potential. If you live in a large city, call your public library and
inquire if they have The Foundation Center software and you won't have
to subscribe. The search software is quite expensive to purchase, and
many large libraries offer it free to the general public in
pre-arranged time slots. You will need to take the course offered by
the library (usually at no charge) to learn how to navigate the
software to receive the best results in your searches. Also, larger
libraries have up-to-date printed volumes in the reference section
which contain grant listings, and those may help you as well.
Know that it is extremely difficult to receive an individual grant,
and it may behoove you to find a local foundation that would
administer the grant to you, as much paperwork is involved.
The key to a successful grant is the specificity. For instance, if
you did a study in your intended area of business and found that 42%
of the population were cigarette smokers, then you might search The
Foundation Center database with the key phrase "cigarette smokers" or
"cigarette smoking" or "quitting smoking" and see if those return
hits. You may also search "hypnotherapy" but I would suggest you find
a "sellable" angle. The angle and specificity are paramount to being
successful in securing a grant.
I hope this information is of assistance. |
