Question ID: 338831
This is really three questions: (1)Did the Devries-Herrmann
German/English Technical & Engineering Dictionary cease publication in
1972 or are there any later editions? If no later editions, are there
any other recent technical dictionaries that would be as thorough as
the Devries-Herrmann one? If so, give me a full citation; (2)What is
the latest edition of Ernst's German/English Dictionay of Engineering
& Technology?; and (3)When did Herbert Bucksch's Dictionary of Civil
Engineering and Construction Machinery and Equipment cease
publication? And is there any other more recent German to English
Dictionary of this type that is recognized as being as thorough?
PLEASE DON'T ATTEMPT AN ANSWER TO THESE QUESTIONS UNLESS YOU ARE
PROFESSIONALLY INVOLVED IN GERMAN/ENGLISH TECHNICAL TRANSLATING!!
Thanks in advance

Hi Frank2 -

While I'm not technically involved in German-English translation, as a
librarian I do have access to the information you seek. Do you want
me to address your question or leave it be? I'm not sure you'll find
someone here with your specific qualifications...

Please do not answer the questions. I would like only a person
professionally involved in German/English translation to answer these
questions.

Hi there - Thought you might find this helpful:

1: De Vries-Herrmann G/E Technical & Engineering Dictionary did not
publish after 1972.

1b: I think this dictionary may be helpful as a replacement:
Title: Illustrated engineering dictionary =
Bildwörterbuch Maschinenbau und Elektrotechnik ; Englisch/Deutsch -
Deutsch/Englisch /
Author(s): Flack, Heinz K. ; Möllerke, Georg.
Publication: Berlin ; London : Springer,
Edition: 2. Aufl.
Year: 1999
Description: xii, 486 p. : ill. ; 19 cm.
Language: English; Text in English and German.
Standard No: ISBN: 3540656871

2: The Ernst dictionary recently published a 6th edition beginning in
2000 (this is the one referred to above by christofree)

3: The Bucksch dictionary last published a German/English edition in
1982. There are quite a few dictionaries of civil engineering
available for German/English translation. The most recent one is by
Langenscheidt, but the Bucksch is most widely held globally.

Anyway, I hope those answers help with your research.
