what is typical about philosophical claims? what is characteristic of
religious beliefs? are they in opposition? How do Al-Ghazali, Thomas
Aquinas, and St. Augustine use both modes of expression in their
writings?

These are fascinating questions, but to do even one of these questions
justice is likely to take much more time than most Researchers are

As a practicing Mormon = The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints, I think these writings took humanity farther from the gospel
that Jesus, the Christ taught 2000 years ago. With rare exceptions the
logical process is far from obvious, and in fact seems to envolve an
intelectual eletism of philosphers and religioists who mostly pretend
these writings make sense.   Neil
