Do you mean "Kreinik Japan threads"?

See:
http://www.kreinik.com/HTML/threads/metallic_japan_threads.html

Kreinik is actually located in Baltimore:
http://www.kreinik.com/HTML/contact/contact_us.html
"Kreinik Mfg. Co., Inc
3106 Lord Baltimore Drive, Suite 101
Baltimore, MD 21244 USA
E-mail: kreinik@kreinik.com
Telephone: (410) 281-0040
Toll-Free Consumer Information Line: 1-800-537-2166"

I couldn't find "mylar" at Kreinik's site, so I did a separate search
for "Kreinik Japan mylar" and found:

Guntram's Tabletweaving Page:
http://users.iafrica.com/e/ec/eckie/tabletweaving/docs/belt2003/belt2003.htm
". . . Kreinik Japan #7 metallic thread as being a close approximation
of period materials, and such is the yarn I chose. The Kreinik thread
consists of a spun core wrapped with mylar, a synthetic material, and
gives a good appearance of gold thread. Real gold metallic thread (a
core wrapped with gold-plated silver foil) can sometimes be purchased
from specialty suppliers, but is no doubt terribly expensive . . . ."

Stitchers' Paradise lists Kreinik as the *manufacturer* (not just
seller) of "Japan Thread":
http://www.stitchers-paradise.com/threads/Threads_by_Mfg.html

I used the search strings:

"made in Japan" AND mylar AND metallic AND twisted AND thread
"mylar metallic twisted thread made +in Japan
Japanese mylar metallic twisted thread
mylar AND metallic AND thread AND Japan
mylar metallic thread manufacturers Japan

But those failed to yield Japanese manufacturers who make metallic
thread that contains mylar. All roads seem to lead to Kreinik. I have
e-mailed Kreinik (but won't hear back from them until after the
weekend, I'm sure), to verify if they manufacture "Japan Thread" or
else do they buy the thread from a Japanese company and which
manufacturer is that?

I'll get back to you after I hear from them. If you feel I'm way off
course here, please clarify so that I can do a better job of focusing
my research.

But I *think* (!) Kreinik's thread is what you want.

No it is not Kreninik! They have all types of metallic thread they
sell to the embrodery industy. I also do buy one of their braided
products from their southeast office. They have it braided by
Gudebrod. The material I am looking for is call simply twisted
metallic thread!
