Dear JH Ballar, More convicts were sent to Australia, like the two commentators suggested. More than 160,000 convicts were sent to Australia, in comparison to "only" about 55,000 convicts sent to North America. Sources: Dan Byrnes, "Notes on a new project: on merchant history", in: _The Blackheath Connection_ (WebSite e-Book), <http://www.danbyrnes.com.au/blackheath/article3.htm>. Stop the Crime, "Early Prisons" <http://www.stoptheaca.org/early.html> Robert Smith, "A superb history of Australia's founding" (A review of The Fatal Shore by Robert Hughes), World Socialist WebSite, <http://www.wsws.org/articles/1999/jun1999/fat-j25.shtml> - very interesting article. Australian Convicts Database <http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=5517> Search terms: "convicts sent to australia/georgia" I hope this answered your question.
