This sounds like you have some form of adware on your computer. Adware is usually a service running on your computer that causes ads to be displayed on your screen, or to track your browsing habits. I'd recommend downloading Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/). Run that application once it has been downloaded and installed, it should remove any software that is causing these popups. Until then, or if you don't want to run the adaware software, you can right click on the application listed at the bottom of your screen (on the "bar"), and hit close. Or if you have nothing else open you can hit Alt+F4 to close the active window. Be careful with Alt+F4, you could accidentally close the wrong window. |

I recommend the same as the previous response, and install ad-aware to remove any ads on your computer. However you should also use "spy-bot search and destroy" (http://www.safer-networking.org/) along with ad-aware, which detects different ads/programs ad-aware is not programmed to find. If you are using a home computer, then i also recommend turning off the "alerter" and "messenger" services which can be used to install spyware over the web. To do this, go into your "Control Panels" then "Administrative Tools" then "Services". A new window will pop up listing all current services on your computer. Right Click on both "Alerter" and "Messenger" and select "properties".Next to the word "Startup Type" change it to "Disabled". Restart your computer and your problems should be fine. This is only for home/school use really. Do not disable at work, or you may not get adminstrator messages. |
