I would like to know if there are any large companies in Naples Florida. (more
than 500 employees).

I have looked @ the online version of the Thomas Register, as well as the BBB,
and have used Yahoo's geographical "business locator" search, but none of them
have produced satisfactory answers.

It is hard to know whether a company is a 1-2 man operation, a shop of 10-50
people, or something larger, when one does not live in the area. The Thomas
Register is the only place I can think of which lists that information, but the
industries in the Thomas Register are limited.

Thank you!

Dear Kudut,

Thank you for your inquiry. I found many places where one can find employers
but not too many where you can filter based upon the numbers of employees but I
think I found few resources for you. I hope the links below are of assistance
to you.

These folks seem to be affiliated with Dun and Bradstreet or at least get their
data from D&B. They actually have a wizard on their site that allow you to
filter the company list based upon employees. You do have to pay for the lists
though.

Strategic Marketing Record: $39.90 15 total leads @ ~$2.66/lead includes
Prospecting Record plus: bank name and address, owns/rents indicator, sales and
employee trends, import/export indicator, legal status, square footage and
accounting firm

Prospecting Record: $22.50 15 total leads @ ~$1.50/lead includes Enhanced
Telemarketing Record plus: manufacturing indicator, subsidiary indicator,
ownership, year started, and corporate linkage

Enhanced Telemarketing Record: $15.60 15 total leads @ ~$1.04/lead includes
Telemarketing Record plus: annual sales (and accuracy indicator), employees
here and employees total

Telemarketing Record: $9.30 15 total leads @ ~$0.62/lead includes Mailing
Record plus: telephone number and status indicator

Mailing Record: $6.30 15 total leads @ ~$0.42/lead includes business name,
mailing address, city, state, zip+4, primary SIC, DUNS#, county, FIPS codes,
D&B codes, MSA code/text, lat-lon coordinates, standard executive contact
information (name, title, gender, executive function code), population code,
carrier route code and delivery point, additional SIC codes (if available),
plus any specialty data elements and contact names chosen

Another sales lead generation site that has a wizard that lets you drilldown to
the specifics that you want. The pricing is based upon the types of names, the
number of names, etc. InfoUSA says they are the original compiler of this
information so it’s cheaper to buy from them.

==The South Florida Business Journal
http://southflorida.bizjournals.com/southflorida/
Another list you have to pay for. In every addition, the Business Journal
publishes a Top 100 list. Some examples are “Top 100 Banks” or “Top 100 Real
Estate Brokers.” You can purchase the yearly compendium called the “Book f
Lists” for $40 in print or $150 in CD format. Another way, way to track
businesses in the Naples area is to just get a subscription to the Business
Journal. They also sell a “Sales Leads” product.

==Hoovers.com

If you have a membership to Hoovers.com I believe you can do an advanced search
for companies by location. I happened upon a cached link during one of my
searches where it listed companies for Denver, CO.

I am not sure if you are looking for a job just researching Naples, FL or leads
but here is a site that has a list of companies that have job postings. Again,
you do run into the issue of not knowing if they are a small business or a huge
multi-national.

The answer you provided was good, although (and perhaps I was vague),
I was looking more for some of the answers provided in the comments
below. It's not for market research, but rather to see what larger
corporations exist in Naples, as I have a friend moving down there who
is looking for IT work -- and I'm working with the assumption that a
company over 500 employees large, will have at least a small handful
of people for their computer tech staff.

[ie - you don't need to work for a hi-tech corporation to get a good
computer job]

Calathea's comment was right on the mark, as were the other comments
-- now, for example, knowing that "Health Management Associates" has
21,000 employees, I could ask my friend Jan to start making phone
calls, researching HMA so that he can get a good cover letter going,
checking out their job-postings, etc.

Ultimately, the best jobs are often found in the 1-2 to 100 man shops,
but if you're looking to have a corporate existance of some sort, as
my friend Jan seems to be, bigger companies wlil do the trick.

But your answer was still very good, and if some of the other leads
turn out to be dead-ends, I will look into the pay sources. Thank you
for your assistance! It was worth the $10.

Well, I found one for you: Allen Systems Group - a software &
programming groups located in Naples. However, many of these probably
work at other locations, as ASG has offices in several countries.

Hello.

Using a subscription database to which I have access (www.careersearch.net) I
was able to find a few more companies with more than 400 employees. My
impression while surfing through this database was that there were a
substantial number of companies in the 100-300 employee range in a much wider
range of industries.

I hope this helps.

C :)

Calathea -- would you be able to see what companies are in that
100-300 employee range? I looked @ careersearch.com, but as this
company-search is for my friend and not for myself, I don't want to go
signing up if it's expensive :) How much does it run?
