Question ID: 340566
Would like to know who this artist is, and if his work is well known?
Am not sure what language this is in, but think it is is german or
hungarian...?? Artist: Prof. Megyery: der Ku:nstler wurde15.3.1898
geberen, er entstammt. (That is what the first sentence reads on the
back of the painting.)
It is a oil on canvas landscape painting, of a creek in the middle of
a wooded area. The season appears to be autumn.

Dear taffy1114,

No information on this painter seems to be available online. But since
the text is German, I will check German art encyclopedias in the
library tomorrow.

Scriptor

I have searched several German multi-volume art reference works.
However, no Professor Megyery is listed as an artist anywhere. Maybe
one of my colleagues is more successful than I.

I also found nothing, also in Hungarian sources (although at least the
beginning of the text is in German).

Could you please tell us what is written further in the text, maybe it
would help us trace this elusive artist?

Hope this is helpful !.The front of the oil painting is just signed: Megyery.

Dear taffy1114,

I was not able to find any information on Professor Megyery, but I
have translated the German text. Maybe it will prove helpful for you
or for my colleagues:

"Professor Megyery: The artist was born on 15 March 1898; he is
descended from a Hungarian noble family which has already been
resident in Austria for generations. Prof. Megyery studied at the
Vienna Academy and ranked among the most important landscape painters
in Vienna when he was still a student. In later years, he turned
towards portrait and flower painting, where his spatula technique must
be regarded unique. Due to his mastery and his popularity, Prof.
Megyery is chairman of several artists' associations and president of
the Working Group of Austrian [word missing here]. All his paintings
are produced by him with exceptional accuracy, and they will surely
appreciate in years to come."
