Hi kaocservant-ga ,
The easiest way to add search capability to your site is to use
Google. By signing up at ://www.google.com/services/free.html ,
you can allow visitors to search your site quickly and conveniently,
using the familiar google interface. Setup is straightforward, and
the service is available for free. An alternative is using Altavista
or Hotbot to search your site, which is explained in detail at
http://htmlgoodies.com/tutors/altavistasearch.html .
Good luck with future searches!

I began the process of adding the search capability that you gave at
google.com. I have two questions about your solution: 1. Can I pay a
monthly fee and satisfy your condition to advertise? 2. I tried
putting kaoc.org in the list of domains to be searched, and Google has
not indexes this site. It would be very helpful to our assembly, and
other interested people, if they could search the sermons at
www.kaoc.org/sermons. Perhaps I purchase the indexing of this site?
Any help would be appreciated.

Kaocservant-ga ,
It appears that your site has not yet been indexed by Google. Never
fear: simply go to ://www.google.com/addurl.html and enter
http://www.kaoc.org as the URL with whatever comments you'd like.
This will trigger google to 'crawl' your site, meaning the entire
site, including sermons, will then be searchable. Google does not
crawl immediately; in my experience, it may take up to a few days.
This means that when you upload a sermon there will be a short delay
before it's searchable. In my opinion, this is the best result: it's
free and utilizes the acclaimed Google interface. Other options
include http://www.picosearch.com or http://www.fusionbot.com, both
of which come in free and pay versions but serve advertising with the
results. If you require more clarification, feel free to ask!
Have a good day,

You have been very helpful so far. I, too, really like the Google
indexing. Just for clarification -- there is no way around the
advertising if I use Google?

And one more clarification, please. Last week, I went to
www.google.com/addurl.html, as you suggested, and put in www.kaoc.org.
It took the information and said the site had been added to the "crawl
list". Today, when I tried to set up the free search at
://www.google.com/services/free.html, it didn't like kaoc.org. SO,
I went back to addurl.html, and this time it told me that "we cannot
perform Site SEarch on this domain". Why not?

Kaocservant-ga,
I think your problems lie on the server side. Upon trying to access
http://www.kaoc.org today, I get ´Server: Microsoft-IIS/4.0 Date: Mon,
08 Jul 2002 16:14:29 GMT´ instead of the usual webpage. If Google
can´t access the page because your server keeps going down, then
Google won´t be able to crawl the site. In regards to using Google
without advertising, there´s a for-pay ($599 monthly!) search service:
Google Silver / Gold Search Service
://www.google.com/services/silver_gold.html
Regardless of which search solution you go with, connectivity issues
must be addressed first. I recommend that you check out a site like
HostSearch to find a better server:
HostSearch.com, Web Hosting Resource

Good luck,
