I am conducting research on the South African Apartheid - comparing the
Umkhonto We Sizwe (MK), an armed resistance movement, and The African
National Congress, a non-violent group, and each groups success and/or
failures against the South African apartheid.
Which was more successful? Why?
I'd like to have a brief history of the two groups and specific
tactics, campaigns and strategies used. How do the two groups
compare?
I've found a lot of information about the ANC, but I have a hard time
distilling all that's available into something that I can use for
comparing the two groups. |

Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) overlapped significantly with the African
National Congress -- indeed, one of the MK leaders was Nelson Mandela.
So, when you say compare the two groups, do you mean compare the
non-violent activities of other parts of the ANC versus the violent
activities of the MK (leaving aside the overlap between the two
groups)?

Exactly. If possible, any historrical information that ties the
groups together would be very useful.
Thanks!
Please let me know if this is clear. The more organized information, the better :)

I may or may not be able to answer this question myself -- it depends
on my (somewhat hectic) schedule. But I thought I would get the
process started, and hopefully, even if I don't answer the question,
another Researcher would.

I'm hoping to have an "answer" no later than today, otherwise the
information isn't much good for me. Thanks for looking into the
question :)

Maybe I can narrow the question down a bit:
Compare the tactics of the armed resistance movement, the Umkhonto We
Sizwe (MK), with that of the African National Congress against the
South African Apartheid.
Which was more successful? Why? What tactics, campaigns or strategies
did each group use?

If an answer is avaialable by 5/6/2004 9am PDT, it would be helpful.
Otherwise, it will be too late :(
Thanks in advance :)
