i need to convert old ami pro files to word. I have Office XP, and do not want to install an older version of word, nor do i want to install Ami Pro, or other lotus word products. The previous converter pack for Office had AmiPro.cnv as part of the distribution, but this has been removed. Other applications to convert to word from ami pro are costly, and untried. What is the best and least expensive way to do this. |

Hi, and thanks for the question I've just done this myself. This one is free, and it works. Download the Amipro to Word converter from here: http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm Unzip it and install the file ami332.csv in the folder \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv You'll be able to see your amipro files when you try to open a file in Word. You'll get a warning message thast you're opening a non-word file, but then it opens up just fine. willie-ga Search used "amipro converter for word" |

The Office Converter Packs for Office 97, 2000, and XP have been retired from the Microsoft Download Center due to the discovery of a potential security vulnerability. The Office 2003 version of the converter pack will work with Office 97, 2000, and XP applications. Go to this link http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/tools/BoxA07.htm The earlier versions of Office Converter Pack had the Ami Pro converter, but since I don't use MS Office anymore I couldn't test this out for you. Just try anyway, you've got nothing to lose :) |

Seems to me that most of the links posted above no longer function. The original Microsoft converters for Word 97 (which also work for Word 2000, and I *think* also work for newer releases), are available from http://server-die.alc.upv.es/alumno/borrar/Parches95.htm Download wdsupcnv.exe Zip file from that site. The site is in Spanish, but the Zip file includes directions in English. All you need to do is extract the Ami332.cnv file and plop it in the right directory, that will permit you to open .sam files from within word. If you set the .sam file association for Windows to point to Word.exe, then double-clicking .sam files will also open them. If you've made your way to this thread, you probably already know that Microsoft retracted these files some time ago, due to security issues. SO BEWARE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I can state that I've successfullly used them to open .sam files into Word 2000 under XP. Also, my very uneducated guess is that it would be the rare hacker that would try to screw with your computer via some old software that Microsoft doesn't even publish anymore. But what do I know? Hope this helps. Good luck. |

Hi all. I've been searching everywhere for a converter to convert my old university thesis file to MS Word. I've downloaded the Ami332.cnv as suggested above and it works! All the texts and even format are in place. The only problem is that all the pictures, graphics and diagrams in the .sam file are gone. How do I get all the images to appear in the converted file? Thanks in advance. |
