From Haynes Fine Art of Broadway: EUGENE VON BLAAS Austrian 1843 - 1931 Reflective Thoughts Watercolour, signed, 15 x 11½ inches ref. 6742 "Eugene von Blaas was a painter of genre subjects. He was born to Austrian parents in Rome and studied under the historical painter Karl von Blaas at the Academy in Rome and the Academy in Venice." "Eugene von Blaas painted numerous subjects but notably he favoured and excelled in images of female beauty. Blaas painted in both oil and watercolour using both mediums with consummate ease. His models are always beautiful with exquisite facial line and skin tone. Their poses are enduring, drawing the viewer with a bashful turn or a defenceless expression. Blaas deliberately sets out to catch the viewer's weaker instinct and rarely he fails." "He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London between 1875 and 1892." notes: change in spelling of last name, no price was given for this watercolor. http://www.haynes-fine-art.co.uk/galleries/children_beauties/children_beauties_03.html For sale at the European World Gallery: Piece: 15" x 30" Pear Soap Print Title: By Eugene Von Blass Date: 1892 Price: $350 USD Condition: Very Fine http://europeanworldgallery.com/ant-coll.html searched Google for "Eugene von Blass" not quite what you are looking but hope this helps some |

His early painting "La Tombola" sold for 77,675.00 British pounds, with the original estimate being 80,000 - 120,000 British pounds on June 20, 2002 at Christies in London (http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/search/LotDetail.asp?intObjectID=3934867&SN=6562&LN=0083) From Google's cache of http://www.sothebys.com/liveauctions/sneak/archive/ah_19thcent_1100.html, I found that his painting "Pomegranates" was given an estimated auction price of £150,000-200,000 at Sothebys in November 2000. Another painting (no title supplied) was given an estimate of 2,600-3,000 Euros. by icollector.com with respect to a sale in Vienna, June 13, 2000 http://photos.icollector.com/listing/dorotheum1641.html A picture of a Venetian scene went for 6000 DM in December 2001. http://www.hampel-auctions.com/archiv/kuenstler/385.html |
