I have an Aiwa HTdv90 Home theater system with DVD player. When I try
to turn it on now, it flashes PROTECT on the display and then shuts
off. A friend of mine who was working with it said he may have
pressed some buttons accidentally to cause the problem. I have
performed the system reset as shown in the manual to no avail. Any
help would be appreciated. |

Greetings, longstreet!
In order to assist you, the answers to some questions would be helpful.
Have you unplugged the AC power cord, left the system alone for a few
minutes, and then plugged it in again?
Can your friend give you any idea which buttons he was pushing?
Have you tried calling AIWA Customer Support?

I have left the unit unplugged for 5-10 mins and plugged it back in
several times. My friend was plugging in a cable from the back,
braced the unit from the front with his hand and accidentally pressed
buttons. So, we don't necessarily know what buttons were pressed in
what order. We called Aiwa tech support they just told us to do the
manual reset (holding the stop button).
Since then I have disconnected every cable from the unit (except the
power cable) and performed the reset and unplugged the unit for 5-10
mins again. Still getting the same error though.

longstreet,
Most electronics and computer manufacturers strongly recommend that
cables, plugs, and/or wires **NEVER** be connected or disconnected
while the power is on; in fact, many recommend that the device be
completely **unplugged**.
It may not be common, but it is not unheard-of for connecting or
disconnecting cables, plugs, and/or wires while a device is powered to
fry all or part of the device's circuitry. It is quite possible that
this is what has happened.
I encourage you to first contact AIWA's telephone customer suppport
line for assistance, but if they are unable to help you, I recommend
that you take your system to an authorized service dealer.
Best wishes,
